A word from our honourees:
“Our family has been involved in Westmount Shul for over 18 years. We joined Westmount in order to keep our children and grandchildren Jewish. We also needed a place to grow and develop. What happened over time is that our desire to preserve our Judaism for generations evolved into a meaningful love for G-d. Our goal was the same, but our motivation changed completely through our involvement with the Westmount Shul and community. Our family has been given the guidelines and boundaries how to live our lives. By allowing our family the opportunity and knowledge to grow in an authentic Torah Judaism environment, we have been able to pass on many values onto our children. To date, we have all connected to this goal, and we remain a steadfast observant family.
What first drew us to Westmount were several things. There was an amazing group of people who were simply charged, and looking to get more out of life. Secondly, we had the opportunity to develop an amazing children’s program for our kids, to make them happy. And thirdly, we had an amazing Rabbi and Rebbetzin who were able to give our family the guidance and care we needed.
From our involvement, we had built and maintained so many of the lasting, meaningful relationships that we cherish today. This was the most amazing thing about the Westmount community. Many of us shared common goals, and we were all accepted into this community despite our backgrounds. The community nurtured individualized growth. It is not an all or nothing type of community, but rather everyone is being built up in the the most amazing way. Everyone at their pace and level.
Our most cherished aspect of Westmount has been watching and sharing in the lives of so many children of the community. We saw them coming in as early as nursery, and over time we have seen them grow and develop into amazing individuals. When you take a child who has no idea how to read, and a couple years later you see them leading the davening – that is the pinnacle of Judaism to us. At Westmount, we nurture Jewish Neshamas (souls).
We are looking forward to the next era of the Westmount community. We think the future is bright, and that is has the opportunity to attract many new young couples who also identify with the warm, accepting, and growth-oriented values that have made Westmount stand out for all these years.”
