The panel took place on December 11th. Discussion of three different perspectives on the challenges of end of life issues
The Torah perspective on ending life, MAID, suicide was presented by Rabbi Kalman Ochs, the Rav of Toras Emes congregation. He spoke about the practical Halachik issues involved as well.
Dr. Michael Kirzner spoke about the difficulties involved in actually advocating for life extending interventions in underfunded hospitals and other medical facilities.
Mr. Ben Blufarb BaLlb discussed the legal factors involved in appealing for life extending interventions using a proposed “Power of attorney for Personal Care & Statutory Declaration” form.
2. How to prepare your document:
As a document that could be challenged, have your signature of the document witnessed by two non-immediate-family and competent witnesses. The witnesses should be ones that are not inheriting you and should have no vested interest in the document being signed.
It is recommended that you give a copy of the signed document to your family doctor and to the person(s) who are your emergency contacts.
